2022 National Safety Stand-Down

2022 National Safety Stand-Down

To Prevent Falls in Construction

The leading cause of death within the construction field continues to be falls from elevation. These account for 351 of the 1,008 construction fatalities recorded in 2020 (BLS data). They were preventable. This Stand-Down is to raise awareness of fall hazards across the country.

What is Safety Stand-Down?

This event is a voluntary event for employers to speak with their employees about their safety. Any company can hold this, by taking a break within their workday and focus on “Fall Hazards” and “Fall Prevention.” This also includes companies whose employers are not exposed to fall hazards. These companies can use this opportunity to speak about other job hazards their employees my face, protective methods, and safety policies. Employers can also use this time to speak with their management team about fall and other hazards on the job.

Who Can Participate?

Anyone who wants to prevent hazards in the workplace can get involved. Recently, participants ranged from construction companies, contractors, highway companies, general industry employers, U.S Military, unions, institutes, and other safety equipment manufacturers.

Partners

OSHA is partnering with multiple groups in order to complete a successful Stand-Down. Groups such as National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), National Occupational Research Agency (NORA), Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), National Safety Council, National Construction Safety Executives (NCSE), U.S Air Force, and the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers.
