Every employer must establish, implement and maintain a written Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and a copy must be maintained at each workplace or at a central work site. Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations, Section 3203 (T8 CCR 3203)

According to an OSHA Standard Interpretation, the agency suggests that a safety and health program should contain five core elements. These elements are:

1. Management leadership and employee participation;
2. Hazard identification and assessment;
3. Hazard prevention and control;
4. Information and training; and
5. Evaluation of program effectiveness. 

The written plans must be written specifically for your site or organization not generic templates, and must meet the specific OSHA required elements for each plan.

OSHA  requires your company to comply with the Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tag-out) Standard if servicing and/or maintenance takes place at your company during normal production operations in which: an employee is required to remove or bypass a guard or other safety device; or an employee is required to place any part of his or her body into an area on a machine or piece of equipment where work is actually performed upon the material being processed or where an associated danger zone exists during a machine operating cycle.
